SabbaticAid is a free financial planning tool that helps people estimate whether they can afford to take time off work. The calculator runs entirely in your browser and produces estimates based on the information you enter.
SabbaticAid also publishes country-specific sabbatical guides with information on costs, visas, taxes, and practical tips.
SabbaticAid is operated as an independent project. For contact details, see the bottom of this page.
SabbaticAid is an informational tool, not a financial advisor. The calculator produces estimates based on the data you provide and general assumptions about investment returns. These estimates are not predictions and should not be treated as professional financial, tax, or legal advice. Before making significant financial decisions, consult a qualified professional.
We aim to keep our country guides and calculator logic accurate and up to date, but visa rules, tax laws, and cost of living change frequently. We cannot guarantee that all information is current or error-free. Always verify with official sources before making decisions based on our content.
SabbaticAid is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We are not liable for any decisions you make based on the tool's output or our content. Your use of SabbaticAid is at your own risk.
SabbaticAid is free to use. We reserve the right to change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the service at any time.
All content, design, and code on SabbaticAid is owned by SabbaticAid. You may not copy, reproduce, or redistribute our content without permission, except for personal, non-commercial use such as sharing your results with others.
We take your privacy seriously. This policy explains what data SabbaticAid collects, why, and what your rights are under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other applicable privacy laws.
The short version: Your financial data stays in your browser. We do not see it, store it, or share it. The only personal data we process is your email address if you choose to subscribe, and basic anonymous analytics.
All financial data you enter (country, expenses, assets) is processed locally in your browser. It is stored in your browser's localStorage so your data persists between visits. This data never leaves your device and is never sent to our servers. We cannot see, access, or recover this data.
If you use the "Share your results" feature, your calculator data is encoded into a URL that you can share with others. Anyone with that URL can see the shared results. No data is stored on our servers for this feature.
If you voluntarily subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address. This is the only personal data we actively collect. Your email is used exclusively for sending you periodic updates about SabbaticAid, including new country guides and tools.
We use privacy-friendly analytics (Plausible Analytics and/or Google Search Console) to understand how people find and use SabbaticAid. These tools do not use cookies, do not collect personal data, and do not track you across websites. We see aggregate data like page views and referral sources, not individual behavior.
Our hosting provider (Netlify) automatically collects standard server logs, which may include your IP address, browser type, and pages visited. These logs are used for security and performance purposes and are retained according to Netlify's own privacy policy.
Under the GDPR, we process personal data on the following legal bases:
We do not process any special categories of personal data (health, religion, etc.).
SabbaticAid uses the following third-party services:
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any third party for marketing purposes.
SabbaticAid does not use tracking cookies.
We use your browser's localStorage (which is not a cookie) to store:
localStorage data stays on your device and is never transmitted to us. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings (Clear Site Data for sabbaticaid.com).
Since we do not use cookies for tracking or advertising, no cookie consent banner is required under the ePrivacy Directive. The localStorage usage described above is strictly necessary for the service to function as expected.
Under the GDPR, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details below. We will respond within 30 days as required by the GDPR.
If you believe your rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. For residents of the Netherlands, this is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
